DOT Desk: Electricity supply to the Secretariat is facing disruption as the distribution company is unable to meet around 52 percent of power supply requirement of 17.72 megawatts to the government’s major administrative hub, reports The Daily Sun. Due to poor electricity supply capacity, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her visit at the ministry of home affairs had experience low voltage problems.
, officials concern said.
Dhaka Power Distribution Company Ltd (DPDC) can supply the highest 11.72MW of electricity to the Secretariat through 13 transformers under the 11/.04kv line.
DPDC has already sent six letters to Public Works Department requesting to allocate 10 katas of land to install a 33/11kv GIS substation at the Secretariat.
Sources said the Department already installed a series of unauthorised transformers around the Secretariat to address the issue. “The electricity supply infrastructure is at risk due to unplanned installation of transformers at the Secretariat,” DPDC joint-secretary Jayanta Kumar Sikder informed the chief engineer of Public Works Department last month.
“We have been requesting Public Works Department to allocate the land during last one year. But they are yet to respond to our reguest,” DPDC managing director Bikas Dewan told the daily sun on Monday.
He added the company will require around Tk 300 million to implement the substation for ensuring uninterrupted electricity to the Secretariat.
“DPDC will implement the project within one year subject to availability of land,” he said. He also blamed the insufficient supply capacity for the low-voltage problems during the PM’s visit to the Secretariat.
