Abrar Hussain of DOT
Former lawmaker Khandkar Abdul Baten, one of the organizers of the Liberation War and chief of Baten Bahini, died at a hospital in the capital yesterday. He was 72.
Abdul Baten was elected MP twice from Tangail 6 (Nagarpur-Delduar) constituency in 9th and 10th election. He was elected MP in the 9th parliamentary election as an independent candidate, while with Awami League ticket in the 10th national election.
Baten left behind his wife, two sons, one daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed her profound shock at the death of Abdul Baten. In a condolence message, the premier prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
