The High Court yesterday granted anticipatory bail to BNP leader Mirza Abbas and his wife Afroza Abbas for eight weeks in a corruption case of Tk 21 crore, reports The Daily Star.
The court, however, directed Mirza Abbas and Afroza Abbas to surrender before the trial court after eight weeks in connection with the case.
The High Court bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed by them.
Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Shahjahanpur Police Station on January 7 against the duo on charge of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 20.77 crore.
Yesterday, the accused appeared before the High Court bench for bail with the bail petition. Advocate Jainul Abedin argued for the petitioners.
ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that the commission is yet to decide whether it will move a petition at Supreme Court against the verdict.
