Fellows issue ultimatum to arrest bus driver

    DOT Desk: Fellows of Sylhet Government College student, Sarwar Ahmed, who died on Thursday as a bus hit his motorcycle, gave a 24-hour ultimatum on Sunday to arrest the driver of the bus, reports The New Age.
    They issued the ultimatum from a rally during a demonstration on Sylhet-Tamabil highway at Islampur in the city protesting at the death of Sarwar, 20, an under graduate student of Sylhet Government College.
    Students of different educational institutions in the city and their teachers, guardians and local residents attended the protest programme that held blocking the highway at noon. They said that they would go for tougher movement if their demands were not met before ending the ultimatum.
    Scholarshome School and College principal Abdul Hai Jamali, Hazrat Shahjalal High School headmaster Suranjit Das, Al Amin Jameya Islamia High School headmaster Jasim Uddin, Sylhet MC College student Delwar Hossain, Sylhet Government College student Nazrul Islam and Zilhaj Chowdhury, among others, addressed the rally.
    On Thursday afternoon, the over-loaded bus hit the motorcycle of Sarwar in Islampur area when he was returning home from the city, leaving him dead on the spot and his friend Anik seriously injured.
    Shah Paran police officer-in-charge Akhter Hossain told New Age on Sunday afternoon that said the bus was seized but its driver and helper managed to flee.
    ‘Effort is underway to arrest the bus driver,’ the police officer said, adding that a case was filed with the police station in this connection.
