People rape to show their power

Prof Dr Tajul Islam speaks to DOT : 
People commit most hideous act like rape in a bid to show their personal power. There are different types of power; physical, political and financial. Whenever a person realizes that he possesses much power then he commits such heinous act.
We see that the victims of rape and torture have no power. They have to bear the brunt, as they are powerless. Recently this issue has turned out to be a curse for us. Our young generation is getting involved with hideous act more and more. The empowerment of the criminals has enhanced in different sectors including politics in recent time. The culture of impunity in our society is also attributable to this woeful situation. Now we have forgotten to call a spade a spade. Therefore, the bad people of the society are taking advantage of the situation. Our family bond and social structure is also crumbling. Our social values are also following suit. The older social structure is not working. We should also cope up with the new social structure and exercise our social values as soon as possible. We have to wake up before the social structure collapses completely. The social justice system has to be strengthened so that people do not dare commit heinous acts like rape.
