Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu speaks to DOT :
I did not have personal contacts with Syed Ashraful Islam, the former general secretary of Awami League. But we used to meet at cabinet and share our own views. I did not have any close relation with him.
We would touch the base owing to both of us being cabinet members. Well, I had visited him at his home quite a few times. As a person, he was honest a man with a supreme mentality. He was wise. He was highly experienced in the country’s political arena. With his demise, not only the party, but Bangladesh also lost a priceless and timeless political figure. This is an irreparable loss since the country barely has a politician as honest, wise and seasoned as him. From that sense, I feel his replacement will be
an uphill task. As far as my knowledge goes, Syed Ashraf sacrificed a lot for politics, Awami Leagye and the people. He did a lot to the countrymen and taught them a lot. There is a lot to be inspired about and learnt from his life.
