Supreme Court Bar Association President Advocate Zainul Abedin demanded the Election Commission to cancel the results of the 11th parliamentary election and hold a re-election under a non-partisan and neutral government, reports The Daily Star.
The SCBA president urged the Supreme Court yesterday to issue a suo moto order on the EC to cancel election results, citing vote rigging at 90% centers throughout the country just a day before the election.
He made the appeal at a press conference at the SCBA auditorium.
Zainul said the election cannot be termed “election” in any manner as “no voters and polling agents of the candidates other than the AL ones were allowed to enter the polling centres.
He said he had expected that the polling atmosphere would be fair since the army and BGB had been deployed at the polling stations but alleged that they could not work independently. They could not work without the permission of the deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officer, he said.
Zainul also demanded resignation of the SC judges who disqualified the candidates of the election. “I think they (the judges) have violated their oath,” the SCBA president said.
In the December 30 parliamentary election, the AL-led Grand Alliance won 288 seats in the Jatiya Sangsad against the BNP-led Oikyafront’s seven.
