The operational flaws owing to lack of skills of some of the Presiding Officers has maligned the image of EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines), which were used iof the Parliamentary elections held on Sunday, Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmad said yesterday.
“… It’s you (Media) who carried out negative campaign against EVMs use in elections which created fears among voters before vote. This fear also influenced Presiding Officers who operated the EVMs in elections. As result, their operational flaws led to technical glitches of the machines at some poll centres,” Helaluddin Ahmad told Our Time and Amader Orthoneeniti yesterday.
He went on, “In every constituency, EVMs successfully handled 42-45 percent votes. The rate of success might be 80 percent if all of the presiding officers were equally skilled.” “When people will be used to in EVMs, it would be possible to carry out big elections like Jatiya Sangsad and Local Government by this modern technology successfully,” he added.
