Not everyone in this world is lucky enough to win the career lottery. More often than not, our parents, siblings, or the people around us, push us towards a career that we did not really want to do. In the end, we are stuck in a bottomless pit of disappointment, where we are happy on the outside with our typical families and bank jobs, but severely frustrated on the inside.
However, there is a way to find the work you were meant to do, and below is the method.
At 6 years old, I wanted to grow up to work in the army, but now I am pursuing a career in software engineering, with no intention of going to the army. Thing is, that your career trajectory is not always set and you never know where you will end up. Usually the ones who end up doing what they are born to do are willing to experiment and regroup. They use their mistakes as lights that will guide them their desired job. Hence, if you are not willing to settle for an okay and ordinary life and want to end up doing something amazing, you should be ready to adapt to big changes which is more commonly known as “failure”.
When people think about their dream jobs, they tend to think solely about a profession or occupation. Working conditions often include things like how you choose to spend your time, what you do in your leisure, how much you like to work collaboratively and by yourself, and how you like to be rewarded for your efforts. People usually just think of the long run big picture or the final change they will make. However, it is impossible for one to focus on the big picture when they hate the momentous aspect. Thus, it is important for people to work in challenging environments that give them the space to thrive.
And last but not the least- it is important for people to a lot of things on the side. Be it a small part time job, a weekend job as softball league coach, or volunteering activities. These side jobs usually expose us to more opportunities and broaden our perspectives.
