Nat’l Election: Phones allowed, but to be kept shut in centers

    The Election Commission has allowed carrying mobile phones in voting centers, but on condition that they will not be in use it inside.
    “Voters can enter polling centre along with their mobile phone set,” the commission’s Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed announced in a press briefing yesterday evening at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon in the capital. “But, voters will have to switch off their mobile phones after entering the centres.” Nevertheless, Ahmed maintained that no motorized vehicles, even private cars, would be allowed across the country without permission from the Election Commission on voting day on December 30.
    Meanwhile, the secretary said the commission has almost completed its preparations to hold a free, fair and participatory election on December 30. According to him, ballots and boxes have reached the districts and will be handed over to presiding officers today.

    Presiding officers will be carrying the election materials to respective voting centers with armed police guards and stay overnight there.

    They will be ready to begin the vote the following day.
