3 held with arms, ammo in Rangamati

    Members of Bangladesh Army in a special drive detained three persons along with arms and ammunition from Tarachari area of Bilaichari Upazila in Rangamati, reports The Daily Sun.
    The arrestees were identified as Bonkim Chanda Tanchangya, 45, Pavel Tanchangya, 22, and Zotin Kanti Tanchangya, 45. They are members of the regional political party JSS (main), according to a press release of ISPR. Based on intelligence information that an armed terrorist group is planning acts of sabotage at Chattogram Hill Tracts (CHT) ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections, a team of the armed forces conducted a special drive around 5:00 am in Tarachari area of Bilaichari upazila. They arrested the trio and recovered an AK-22 (automatic rifle), three rounds of ammunition and four Chinese knives from their possession.
    Later, the detainees were handed over to the Bilaichari Police Station along with the arms recovered. This is a successful operation by the security forces against the regional armed terrorists of CHT and such operations of the security forces will continue to maintain peace in the CHT.
