What We Do:
Let us talk about money and happiness. People always say cannot buy happiness, it is wrong but not for the reason people think it to be but for some other reason. If money cannot buy happiness you are actually spending it wrong instead of the way you should be spending it.
Before seeing how we should spend the money that could make us happy, let us look at how we usually spend them. in a natural experiment we see an article being posted by CNN on winning a lottery. What happens to them when they win a lottery? The article shows how people’s lives get ruined by winning the lottery. They usually go into a debt spending all their money or their relatives start asking them for money and so it ruins their social relationships. Interestingly in the comment section of the article instead of responding to what they realized about lottery not bringing happiness, they started commenting on what they would do if they won the lottery. People started posting comments like “if I won the lottery I would fill my bathtub with money and smoke a cigar” or “I would buy a mountain and build a house on top”, so they already showed symptoms of being antisocial with the hint of money.
Experiment:
Another reason why money is not bringing us happiness is because we are always spending it on ourselves. So instead of being antisocial with your money why not become a bit pro-social with it. It was proven even in the experiments that if we give people money and say spend it on yourself, at the end of the day they feel nothing even after buying their favorite things whereas spending the money on others made them feel accomplished. This same result was found when the experiment was run among people from different countries, countries that were less rich than Canada or USA etc.
Work-Life:
What about work life, which is where we spend all the rest of our time when we are not with the people we know. We decided to infiltrate some companies and do a very similar thing. So a sells team in Belgium, they go out and work in team. They go to doctors and tell them to buy drugs. So we can look ands see how well they sell things. So we gave one of the teammates say 15 euro and told them to buy something for their teammate, one say bought something for the whole team and another guy from another team who was given the same money but he spent it on himself rather than on the team.
Turns out the guy who spent the money on the team worked more successfully as a team in selling drugs. So it is pure business here to, if you use the money on only yourself, you don’t get a response but if you spend it on the team, you are investing your money to something that might bring you back something.
