Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested three people in the capital on charge of spreading rumours through social media. The arrestees are Wahidunnabi, 47, Arafat Tarunno Tamadi, 37 and Abdullah Jabid, 45, reports The Daily Observer.
They were held from Shyamoli on Thursday night. The move comes just few days left before the 11th national elections to be held on December 30.
“The detainees were using Facebook and other social media platforms to spread misinformation against the government,” Mohiuddin Faruki, deputy commander of RAB-2, said. “They use Facebook for their businesses but are now spreading rumours,” he added. Of the three, Wahidunnabi has been previously accused in cases filed under the Digital Security Act at Jatrabari, Mirpur and Paltan, the RAB official said.
