Kamrul Hasan of DOT
Bangladesh Supreme Court lawyer Shahdin Malik said that, the incidents regarding the upcoming Election are getting out of hand. Even if nothing fatal in happening, the minor casualties are summing up in a big violence. Attacks are occurring in different parts of the country to mislead the amity. Attack on Dr. Kamal Hossain might be one of the attempts to intimidate the opponent. Whether or not, this will affect the common voters. People getting threatened and backing out from giving vote will be the biggest obstacle on the way for an unbiased National election. He said, elections are centered on the voters and they will be the one choosing the government. That’s why lack of voters might indicate a downfall of the country, the nation and the democracy in general. Common people hold the power of democracy in a country and they should be the one to choose the leader. Mentioning the Pakistan and era of autocracy (1975-1990) he said that, whenever a leader or a government rise without amity’s vote, it comes as damnation for the country. So people should be concerned about their rights and secure their votes.
The state and government organizes the election for people and Election commission supervises it. It’s the duty of the commission to guide everyone properly for the sake of a fair election, including the ruling and opposition party. And if anyone comes in the way of the election, the commission has every right to take step to prevent it. So at these last hours when election is knocking at the door, everyone expect more and better supervision from the Election commission.
Shahdin Malik also said that the election is a festival and constitutionally since the Honorable President is the guardian of the state, he must give a speech to the people. Where he will direct the Election Commission to hold a fair, free-fair election and invite people to participate in the election spontaneously.
