A Dhaka court yesterday issued arrest warrants against BNP’s Dhaka-12 candidate Saiful Alam Nirob and 37 others in a case filed for assaulting police and preventing them from discharging their duties in December last year, reports The Daily Star.
After accepting the charge sheet against 71 including 38, Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sarafuzzaman Ansari passed the order directing officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station to submit by February 10 the report on execution of the order on the arrest warrant.
Saiful Alam Nirob, also president of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal youth front of BNP, is now contesting the December 30 general election against Awami League candidate Home Minister Ashaduzzaman Khan Kamal from Dhaka-12.
Earlier on December 15, Sub-Inspector Ramzan Ali of Shahbagh Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case submitted the charge sheet against 71 BNP leaders and activists including Sultan Salauddin Tuku in the case.
The IO showed Nirob and 37 others fugitives in the charge sheet and appealed to the court to issue arrest warrants against them.
In the case filed with Shahbagh police on December 19 of 2017, it was alleged that a group of BNP leaders and activists gathered in front of High Court Mazar to welcome BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia after her appearance before the Special Judge Court -5 of Dhaka set up at Bakshi Bazar Alia Madrassa in connection with the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust graft cases.
But police chased them and a clash between policemen and BNP men.
BNP l candidate from Gazipur-5 constituency Fazlul Haque Milon was shown arrested today in a case filed with Paltan Police Station for assaulting policemen in February this year.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Illias Miah granted the petition to show Milon arrested in the case after SI Arshad Hossain and also the investigation officer of the case submitted a petition in this regard.
The case was filed with Paltan Police Station on February 24 this year against Milon and 76 others on charges of assaulting policemen and preventing them from discharging their duties in front of Hotel Victory in the city’s Paltan area.
Earlier on December 13, Milon was arrested from his village home in Kaliganj in Gazipur district in connection with two arson cases filed with Ramna and Paltan police stations in which arrest warrants were issued earlier against him.
