Music composer Alauddin Ali has spent most of his illustrious career with Amjad Hossain. Many of his notable music compositions were part of Amjad Hossain’s films. Amjad Hossain himself was an adept lyricist. Thus the joint contribution of the duo marked them out. They were called the ‘Manikjore’ or ‘Pair’ says Alauddin Ali. “Now that the pair has been broken I have become numb, I have nothing more to say” Alauddin Ali says.
Sabina Yasmin another potential figure in many of Amjad Hossain’s popular films said, “I do not know whether I am capable of saying anything with respect to Amjad Hossain. The music industry of the time was shaped by the hands of Amjad Hossain and Alauddin Ali.
As Amjad Hossian’s films were unique, so were his film songs. Every one of his film songs were designed according to his plans.
I have won thirteen National Awards, three of which came for singing in Amjad Hossain’s films.
After he got admitted to the hospital I had hoped that he would come out in healthy-form. But that has not happened. I wish that he may live in peace in the afterlife.”
Senior actor Faruk said, “The loss of Amjad Hossain is unbearable. He played a great part in my life. Though I have acted in two films with him I hold his contributions with me. Men like Amjad Hossain do not die, they are everlasting.”
He further added that there have been around seven to eight film directors and producers in the country with whom actors, artistes could mingle lucidly, as if they were part of the same group. Amjad Hossain was one of them. Faruk said that Amjad Hossain used to discuss about all aspects of life- profession, film making, having a family etc. Faruk also included that, in filmmaking Amjad Hossain was not afraid of digital technology, rather he had become resolved to adopt this technology, since it had ultimately come to the fore.
Actress Bobita said, “Amjad Hossain was a unique filmmaker. He was one of those for whom artistes did not feel loaded with work. Even in dire situations like in bitter cold, in the dead of night, without supper or dinner- artistes used to be ready to shot scenes for him.”
Film director Sohanur Rahman Sohan said, “Amjad Hossain was someone who could tell right from wrong. There were others too who could correct the mistakes and exaggerations in the film industry. But one by one all of them started to leave the mortal world. Amjad Hossain was the last one who could guide us, but now he is gone too. Thus now none remains to tell the right from the wrong.”
Mushfiqur Rahman Gulzar, president of Film Directors’ Association noted that Amjad Hossain was a multi-talented person with skills in scriptwriting, song writing, film direction and also acting. According to Gulzar in the history of film movement in Bangladesh Amjad Hossain takes the third place right after Zahir Raihan and Khan Ataur Rahman. Before getting admitted to the hospital Amjad Hossain used to come to FDC and chat with members of film fraternity. Now his loss has left a deep hole in the film industry, Gulzar thinks. Everybody in the film fraternity are grieving at the demise of Amjad Hossain and on behalf of the Film Directors’ Association Gulzar has tendered his wishes that Amjad Hossain’s soul may rest in peace.
