After West Indies won the second match of the three-ODI series, yesterday’s game was a do or die one for both the visitors and the home side, but a confident innings from Tamim and Soumya each put things on Bangladesh’s way. Winning the toss at Sylhet, Tigers opted to bat first and restricted the Caribbeans to 198 for nine from the stipulated 50 overs despite Shai Hope scored a back-to-back ton. Hope put aside an unbeaten 109 to his name after hitting nine boundaries and a six. The right-handed opener also became the top scorer of the series with 298 runs.
Except for him, only three West Indians managed to touch the double digit in yesterday’s series decisive match.
Bangladesh Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked three wickets while Mashrafe and Shakib shared two wickets apiece, with all-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin removing a Windies batter.
Tamim Iqbal left the ground with his not out 81 off 104 while Soumya was the second highest scorer (80) for the hosts to berth the victory with 8 wickets and 11.3 overs in hand.
After losing opener Liton Das on 45-run, the duo launched an attack on the visitors as Tamim scored his 44th ODI 50 off 62-ball with 6 fours, sharing a 131-run stand.
Miraz was adjudged “player of the match” for his career-best bowling figure.
