Even though walking might sound like a healthier option than taking the bus, it seems like it depends on the city you live in and the level of pollution in it.
The rising air pollution in cities like London, Karachi and Doha have left people wondering whether walking is still healthy for commuting. However, despite the confusion, studies have concluded that walking and cycling are still almost always better choices. Even in the cities with worst pollution statistics, the benefits of an active commute outweigh that of a cyclist unless the cyclist is cycling like a bicycle courier for hours. Regular exercise is beneficial for the heart, lungs, muscles and bones and prevents uncountable diseases but the damages done by air pollution, especially its contribution to heart and lung cancer is turning people away from exercising and being more physically active outside as breathing harder leads to inhalation of more dirty air.
