BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Wednesday alleged that the government blocked BNP’s website with a ‘mean political intention’. “The government, after robbing of people’s democratic rights, now out to destroy the opposition party’s right to use technology. In line with this, the government also wants to keep control on technology,” he said.
The senior BNP leader came up with the allegation at a briefing held at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka.
BNP’s website bnpbangladesh.com, inaugurated by BNP chief Khaleda Zia on September 1, 2016, has been blocked, he added.
Earlier on Sunday, BTRC ordered the International Internet Gateway (IIG) operators to block the access to 54 news portals including of BNP’s website as per the government and law enforcement agencies’ order.
“The goons belong to the ruling party and law enforcement agencies jointly launched attacks on the candidates and activists of paddy sheaf during campaign for the upcoming election,” Rizvi alleged, adding that the government is arresting BNP activists while unleashing torture and assault on them.
