EC has no challenges but responsibilities

Prof Anu Muhammad speaks to DOT : The Election Commi-ssion has no challenges but responsibilities. The EC is a constitutional body and it is constitutionally empowered with holding free and credible elections. So, the EC is responsible to hold free and far polls. Now it remains to be seen if the EC can discharge its responsibilities properly. The upcoming polls will be acceptable to all if the EC can perform its responsibilities properly. Otherwise, it will be a bad election.
It is the responsibility of the EC to protect the rights of all the valid candidates. The EC will have to ensure that the candidates could conduct their electoral campaigns without fear. Besides, it is the responsibility of the EC to take punitive actions against the errant candidates.
The EC will have to take prompt actions if any candidate use smuggled money, misuse religion and resort to anything which might harm others. The upcoming elections will be free, fair and impartial if the EC could play its role neutrally.
