The High Court cleared the way for Ganajagaran Mancha spokesperson Imran H Sarker to run for the Kurigram-4 seat in the general election, according to his lawyer.
Previously, the returning officer from Kurigram had rejected Sarker’s application to contest the election. The Election Commission had also scrapped the review Sarker had filed on the decision.
However, the High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil stayed the EC’s decision yesterday based on a petition from Sarker, reported BDnews..
Barrister Tania Amir represented Sarker at the hearing, while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state.
