ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, Jatiya Party’s former Secretary General, filed a writ petition with the High Court yesterday, seeking the acceptance of his nomination papers.
Advocate AF Hasan Arif filed the petition on Sunday morning, reported UNB. According to the report, the petition hearing was likely to be held by the bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Shohrowardi later in the day.
On December 7, the Election Commission upheld the rejection of the former Jatiya Party secretary general’s nomination citing he had defaulted on his loans.
He had previously appealed against the returning officer’s decision to declare his candidacy invalid. The commission confirmed the invalidation after a hearing on December 7.
Howlader was sacked from his party post on December 3. His successor, Mashiur Rahman Ranga, said Howlader had stepped down because of health issues, but is still a party presidium member
