AL finalises candidates for 240 seats

    Hossen Sohel of DOT : Ruling Awami League (AL) finally announced its candidatures for 240 constituencies for contesting in the upcoming general election, reports The Daily Star.
    Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader declared it formally at the party chief’s Dhanmondi office yesterday.
    “We have left 60 seats for our alliance partners,” Obaidul told reporters.
    Around 40 to 42 seats were given to HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party, he said.
    A total of five constituencies were finalised for Workers’ Party, three for Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh (BDB) and as many as for Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Inu), two for Jatiya Party (Manju), two for Bangladesh Tariqat Federation and one for Ambia-led JSD, he informed.
    “If any alliance partner wants to contest the polls with its own electoral symbol in any constituency, it will be allowed to do so,” Obaidul said while briefing the reporters.
    The 11th general election will be held on December 30.
    The authorities have fixed December 2 for scrutiny and December 9 the last date for nomination withdrawal.
