Sheepa Hafiza speaks to DOT :
A child is sent to a school to grow through learning and to enlighten the future. However, Artiri’s case reminds us our education system has collapsed.
A child in school may get involved in wrongful deed, however; it is the duty of the school to rectify her through proper education and counseling.
Insulting a student and the parents for adopting unfair means is a heinous act that can be chosen by an educational institution. It is not meant for so rather an educational institution must develop counseling arrangement for students who get involved in wrongful activities. Aritri’s case could have been dealt differently by her school. They could have called the parents for informing them about their daughter’s act but not for insulting them. Rather the school could have guided the parents on better parenting practices. To a child like Aritri, watching her parents being insulted for her act was very painful and so she committed suicide.
The court should create an example in Aritri’s case through punishing the
responsible persons with an exemplary punishment.
The schools are supposed to raise the children with proper education. However they are eventually turning into “Dhongsho Karkhana”. Sheepa Hafiza is an Executive Director, Ain of Shalish Kendro.Interviewed by Tasmiah Nuhiya Ahmed, Executive Editor, Daily Our Time.
