Badiul Alam Majumdar speaks to DOT :
So far, the role of the Election Commission has been questioned ahead of the 11th parliamentary elections slated to be held on December 30.
The EC has failed to show neutrality. The people have lost confidence in the EC. The commission is yet to restore the confidence among the people. Some of the recent activities of the EC have played a major role in the non-confidence. The EC has failed to stop the ghost cases and arrest of the opposition forces.
The EC has received complaint against some officers about their partial roles. However, the commission is yet to take any action against them. This has paved the way for non-confidence in the EC. Some candidacies have been rejected over trivial matters. Surprisingly many nominations of big loan defaulters were not rejected. The present electoral environment is leading the nation to a controlled election.
