The High Court has ordered local returning officers to accept the candidacy of Golam Rabbani, the Jamaat-e-Islami leader from BNP ticket for Rangpur-5.
The High Court bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al Jalil passed the order yesterday afternoon following a writ petition filed by Rabbani.
Rabbani’s lawyer Advocate Shishir Monir told The Daily Star that the returning officer did not accept his client’s nomination despite having all relevant documents.
“The returning officer kept Rabbani waiting for a long time and refused to accept his nomination papers on November 28, the last day for filing nomination.”
Rabbani later filed a petition with the court on Saturday to challenge the decision.
