Raj Abrar of DOT : Election officials have begun the process to scrutinize nomination applications for the 300 seats in the 11th parliamentary elections.
Returning officers of each parliamentary constituency began a list of valid candidates on yesterday. They were accompanied by representatives of banks and financial institutions.
“The officers have already sent the candidates’ list to the central bank. They will scrutinize the relevant papers and the commission will finalize the candidates following their reports,” EC Joint Secretary Farhad Ahmad Khan told The Daily Star.
According to the law, candidates whose papers were found invalid could appeal for review of the decision within the next three days.
A total of 3,056 nomination papers have been submitted by 39 parties and independent candidates for the 300 seats. All appeals will be settled by December 8, while the last date for the withdrawal of nominations is December 9.
Candidates, their agents, lawyers, proponents, and supporters can be present during the selection of nomination papers. They are also able to check the nomination forms, according to a report by BDNews.
Returning officers will scrutinize the forms in front of everyone and will have to settle any objections regarding to the nomination forms.
The report adds that the officers also have the right to investigate the validity of nomination papers over any objections or other logical reason.
