Candidacy of Hero Alam, 15 others rejected in Bogra

The nomination papers of the much-talked-about aspirant, Ashraful Hossain Alam – referred to as Hero Alam by his fans– have been rejected; along with those of 15 other contestants, reports Dhaka Tribune.
This has ended their chances of running for Bogra’s constituencies in the upcoming 11th general election.
Their candidacies were rejected for a variety of reasons including that some: voter signatures were forged, upazila chairmen refused to resign from their positions, and candidates had defaulted on their bank loans.
After thoroughly scrutinizing the nomination papers, Deputy Commissioner of Bogra Noor-e-Alam Siddique and Returning Officer Fayez Ahmmad announced this, on Sunday, in the presence of officials from banks and other institutions.
The rejected nomination-aspirants will be able to appeal the Election Commission’s decision.
Hero Alam’s nomination paper was rejected because he had failed to properly collect the signatures of 1% of Bogra 4 constituency’s voters.
Speaking to the correspondent, Alam said: “I chose to become an independent candidate because Jatiya Party did not nominate me. I will file an appeal petition against the rejection of my candidacy.”
In Bogra 1 – Sariakandi-Sonatala – constituency, the nomination papers of independent candidates Tipu Sultan and Abdul Manna Mia were rejected—because the signatures of 1% of the voters were not properly collected.
In Bogra 2 – Shibganj – constituency, the nomination papers of Awami League leaders Abul Quashem Fakir and Mostafizar Rahman were rejected because the two were not nominated by their party.
In Bogra 3 – Adamdighi-Dhupchanchia – constituency, the nomination papers of upazila BNP President Abdul Mohit Talukder were rejected because he did not resign from his position as upazila chairman.
Meanwhile, independent candidate Taz Uddin Mondol’s candidacy was rejected because he did not resign from his post and he had not properly collected the signatures of 1% of the voters.
However, the candidacies of Mohit Talukder’s older brother, former BNP lawmaker Abdul Momin Talukder, and Momin’s wife – Masuda Momin – have been accepted. Momin is presently on the run after he was accused in a war crimes case.
In Bogra 4 – Kahalu-Nandigram – constituency, the candidacy of Awami League leaders Kamal Uddin and ANM Ahsanul Huq were rejected because they did not have the party’s nomination.
Jamaat leader and independent candidate Prof Maulana Tayeb Ali’s nomination paper was rejected because he did not resign from his position as the Kahalu upazila chairman. The candidacy of Oikkoboddho Nagorik Andolon leader Prof Jahidur Rahaman was rejected because his party is not registered with the Election Commission. The nomination paper of Yunus Ali was rejected because of irregularities in collecting voters’ signatures.
In Bogra 5 constituency, the candidacy of Jamaat‘s independent aspirant Dabibar Rahman was rejected because he did not resign from his position as Sherpur Upazila chairman. Bikalpa Dhara aspirant Mahbub Ali’s candidacy was rejected because he defaulted on a City Bank loan.
Awami League leader Tahmina Jaman’s candidacy was cancelled because of irregularities in collecting voters’ signatures.
