Jail authorities asked to take Mainul to BSMMU

The High Court has directed the jail authorities to produce Barrister Mainul Hossain before a medical board at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University for his health check-up. The court also asked the jail authorities yesterday to get the medical report and submit it before the HC by December 6.
The High Court bench of Justice Syed Riffat Ahmed and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Mainul’s wife Shaju Hossain for an order upon the jail authorities to examine his health.
In the petition, Shaju said that the health condition of Mainul Hossain is deteriorating as he was not given proper treatment in jail, her lawyer Advocate Masud Rana told The Daily Star.
Barrister Mainul Hosein was sent to jail on October 23, 2018 “for defaming” journalist Masuda Bhatti on television.
Detectives produced Hosein before court around 1pm on October 23. Hosein was arrested on night over the defamation lawsuit filed in Rangpur.
Barrister Mainul Hosein is a former caretaker government adviser.
He was involved in the process of forming Jatiya Oikyafront, an alliance of BNP, Gono Forum, JSD (Rab) and Nagorik Oikya, launched on October 13.
Mainul is also the publisher and is on the editorial board chief of The New Nation newspaper.
