When we think of women leaving their jobs, the first thing that pops into our minds is “babies”. Why else would a woman leave a job, right? Well, it turns out that we are all wrong.
Recently a survey was carried out on around 300 people worldwide, which included women aged 22-35 years, the main reason women leave their jobs is salary! According to the survey, 65% of the women left their jobs because some other company offered them a better pay. This is the first most common reason, out of a list of four others, for women leaving their jobs. And why would not it be? In most places around the world, including the great United Kingdom and United States of America, women are paid less than men.
On the other hand, for men, the top reason for leaving their jobs was lack of opportunity and a learning experience, the second was salary, and unfortunately, family did not even make it to the top five.
They people who carried out the survey came to the conclusion that companies often tend to resort to employee retaining strategies that are gender specific. The researchers believe that it is high time that the companies actually ask a woman what they want instead of just assuming that they will pack up and leave once they have that baby in their 30s.
