Inky the Octopus escaped the National Aquarium at the Coastal city of Napier, New Zealand. This clever octopus has successfully escaped through a gap in its tank to its freedom and re-entered the ocean. It fell in the into Hawke’s Bay through the drain pipes.
Aquarium staff Mr Yarrell mentioned, Inky might have escaped at night by squeezing through a tiny gap at the top of its tank. Then slid across the aquarium floor to the 50m long drainpipe.
Surprising fact, even a comparatively large octopus can squeeze through size of their mouth. Since, it is the only really hard part of their body. Which is also very tiny, much like a parrot’s beak. This makes octopus great escape artist.Inky was donated to the aquarium in 2014 by fishermen. He caught Inky by mistake in a crayfish pot. Inky shared the tank with one other octopus. The aquarium guards will keep the remaining octopuses under close watch.
