Desk Report
Publishers and research organizations have set up 21 stalls at the fair.
The three-day non-fiction Book Fair has begun on the premises of the Faculty of Business Studies of Dhaka University (DU).
DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor M Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the fair by releasing colorful balloons around 10:30am on Sunday. Addressing the ceremony before the inauguration, the DU VC thanked the organizers for arranging such a necessary fair in his institution. He said: “Most of the ancient books preserved in world-famous libraries and museums fall under the non-fiction category. Modern cultures are developed by studying those books. So, it is necessary to read these books alongside curriculum books as well. “We will establish a desk and keep in contact with banks, industries, and other sectors.
With this move, we will be able to recommend our graduates as per job vacancies’ requirements.”
He also requested the teachers of the faculty to prioritize students’ technical and practical knowledge.
The 4th iteration of this fair was jointly organized by Daily Bonik Barta and the Faculty of Business Studies.
After the inauguration, Professor Akhtaruzzaman visited all 21 stalls of publishers and research organizations that are participating in the fair.
The fair features five more stalls:a business faculty stall, a Bkash stall, a medical services stall, and two food courts. Daily Bonik Barta has set up its own stall as well.
The event will be open for all from 10am to 8pm, every day, till October 2.
Dean of DU Business Faculty Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, Editor of Bonik Barta Dewan Hanif Mahmud, and Managing Director & CEO of Agrani bank Mohammad Shams-Ul Islam were present at the fair—among many others.
