Desk Report: Even ten years earlier, Dhaka city dwellers had to spend several hours in darkness every day due to frequent load shedding. But the time has changed, reports The daily Asian Age.
Electricity remains almost similar even during the high summer. An hour power outage or load shedding is done when the situation goes to the peak of the worst. Still, it is not a regular matter. So, it is easily understood that the situation has improved greatly. Saleha Akter, a housewife who resides in Mohammad, made the observations while sharing her experience with the correspondent and said she was happy over the development in power sector, particularly.
Not only Saleha, statistics show that the country’s power generation and supply systems have achieved tremendous success over the past 10 years. As of now, the country’s power generation capacity, including captive power and renewable energy, is 20,133MW, up from merely 4,942MW in 2009. That means, in a decade, the power generation capacity has increased by three times.
As the power generation capacity was very low compared to the demand before 2009, there was a load-shedding in Dhaka for more than three-four hours every day.
