Leon Mir: Gono Front Chairman Md. Jakir Hossain has called for the dissolving of the parliament prior to the upcoming general election, in order to make it impartial. He made the request yesterday, at a meeting organized by the Gono Front at the Engineers’ Institution.
“As per Article 57(2) of the Constitution, couldn’t the president use his power to dissolve Parliament? Therefore Article 57(2) must be amended before the election,” he stated.
He also said that the prime minister, speaker, deputy speaker and local government minister will be part of the committee that will be responsible for forming the election-time government – a government that is neither caretaker nor non-political.
He said the constitution is for the people, and not vice versa.
