People may start college in the spring for a number of reasons. Some people start in spring because they took a gap year after high school, typically to relax or travel. Some, unfortunately, did not get accepted to the college of their choice, or had to defer their admissions due to personal or financial reasons. And then there are others who transfer to a new college in spring. Whatever your reason may be, applying to college in spring is a whole deal different than applying in fall. There are lots of academic, social, and financial issues you have to keep in mind. Yours truly is here with a few pointers to get you started.

    Academic Prep
Spring admission sounds all the same as fall, considering that we have to fill out all the same forms and send all the same documents, however, the process may be a bit different. The easiest difference you can spot is the application deadlines. A lot of colleges have September deadlines whereas a few colleges like University of Colorado Boulder or the Washington State University have October-December deadlines. Make sure to note down the deadlines before even starting your application process!
Often, when we have not done something for a long while, it is hard for us to get back to it all of a sudden. So if you took a gap year, it might be hard to get back in the flow of studies when you enter college. The best way to avoid this is by devoting a little bit of your gap year to learning something new. That way, the wheels of your brain keeps turning and there are no cobwebs.

    Social Prep
You know how when you transfer to a new school, you feel a little left out at first because all your classmates are already part of particular groups or cliques? Well, the same thing happens in university. Since most students enter the university during fall, they form their own cliques before you come in late at spring. However, if you try, it would not be that hard to find your own little unique group. Joining extra curricular clubs or making connections with faculty member is a great way to get introduced to the students and make new friends.

    Financial Prep
This one, I believe, is the most important one of all. Since, most of the students from Bangladesh seek for scholarships when they apply to the United States, it is essential for them to know that the amount of scholarships given out in fall and that during spring may differ significantly. Universities, on a global scale, tend to have more money in store for fall than they do for spring. Some universities do not even have allocated scholarship budgets for each semester, and hence when they have too many worthy applicants during fall, they run out of money to give out during spring. Another factor is how merit-based institutional scholarships may be solely reserved for students entering in the fall semester or might require students to apply by a priority date. It is best to apply for as many scholarships as possible through websites like FastWeb.com or scholarships.com and maybe save up some money too.
