According to The Hindustan Times, a man who was being defamed and insulted by his wife was granted grounds for divorce by the court on March 22. The man was being belittled and was subject to humiliation because he was overweight and he could not satisfy her sexual desires was even called “Mota Hathi” (Fat Elephant) on several occasions.
He was also physically abused by his wife and being slapped and having his private parts hit by her was a daily event. She even went as far as to threaten to drench herself in kerosene and then implicate him and his family in a dowry case after burning herself.
After being regularly taunted by his wife, he even resorted to crash diets in order to “slim down”. When all this had failed, the marriage fell apart and he just could not take any more blows to his self-esteem.
The woman, in her defense claimed that the man could not specify any dates or occasions where he was humiliated or abused. However, the court dismissed it saying that that nobody maintains or is expected to maintain a logbook of insults or offences in a marriage.
