5 boys picked up by DB men, families claim

    Abrar Hussain: The families of five youths who were picked up by alleged detectives in the Dhaka Airport area four days back have demanded their whereabouts and release.
    On the other hand, police have denied the claim.

    The identities of the five youths are, Shafiul Alam and his brother Monirul Alam, Abul Hayat, Safiullah, and Mosharaf Hossain Maaz.

    ‘‘We did not get any information on the whereabouts of the five boys although we have been contacting with different police stations of Dhaka and Detective Branch (DB) office for the last three days,’’ said Ramisa Khanam, mother of Shafiul and Monirul, at a press briefing in Dhaka.

    The press briefing was held at the Crime Reporters’ Association of Bangladesh (CRAB), according to a report yesterday by The Daily Star.

    The families are deeply concerned as police are yet to confirm the detention of the boys, she in tears said.

    Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) denied the detention of the five boys.

    According to the allegations, a team of plainclothes men pulled Shafiul, Monirul and Monirul’s friend Abul Hayat out of a micrbus and took them away at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, said the mother. The incident took place around 8:30pm on September 12, when she arrived at the airport after completing her hajj.

    She along with her two sons boarded the vehicle to go their village home.
