Sayeed Muhammad: In a latest claim over the Digital Security Act, Mustafa Jabbar, the minister for Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology, said the term ‘spying’ is not included in Section 32 of the law.
He was addressing as chief guest at a debate program organized by Debate for Democracy (DFD) in FDC of Dhaka yesterday, Banglanews24.com.
“Section 32 only mentions about punishable offense if anyone violates the Official Secrecy Act regarding confidential state secrets. You (journalists) cannot take photos of corruption but you can publish data. So this law won’t be any trouble for you,” Jabbar said.
According to the minister, this law has not been formulated to target the social media platforms but to prevent crime.
If the Digital Security Act is passed in the parliament, the controversial Section 57 of the ICT Act will be abolished. However, cases that were filed under the Section will be conducted accordingly before the new law is passed.
