President to hand over UGC Gold Medal among 35 academics

    Kabir Humayun: President Abdul Hamid is scheduled to hand over ‘UGC Gold Medal’ among 35 university teachers today for their fundamental research works and publications.
    Among them, 18 teachers will be given the award for the year 2016 and 17 teachers for 2017 at a programme at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, reports UNB.
    According to a press release, each of the selected teachers will get Tk 50, 000 for their books and Tk 30,000 for their articles as honorium along with the certificate and the gold medal.
    Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh, will preside over the ceremony while its member Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum will deliver the address of welcome.
    Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid and Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division, Ministry of Education Sohorab Hossain will join the event as the special guests.
    Earlier in August 2018, UGC changed the name of the UGC Award as UGC Gold Medal.
    The Commission introduced UGC Award (now UGC Gold Medal) in 1980 to encourage fundamental research works and publications of university teachers.
