Jatiya Party will contest polls unilaterally: Ershad

Abrar Hussain: Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad has announced that his party will take part in the next general election ‘unilaterally’ in order to assume office.
“Jatiya Party will not be used as a ladder for any political party in next general election and the party is ready for contesting the election unilaterally,” said the former military dictator while addressing a joint meeting of the party at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the capital, according to a report by the New Age yesterday.

Ershad alleged that the people are ‘fed up’ with both the Awami League and BNP, blaming the factions’ failure to fulfill the aspirations of the people as well as their incompetence in governing the country.

“The people are eagerly waiting for change in power and they are ready to support the Jatiya Party to bring in power again.”

Ershad has called on party leaders and activists to take preparations for taking part in the 300 constituencies and to revamp the organizational capacities of the party. Several hundred party leaders and activists from across the country took part at the meeting with banners and festoons.

Senior co-chairman of the party and also the leader of the opposition in parliament Raushan Ershad stated that Jatiya Party would not be the opposition in the future, pledgin it would go in power unilaterally in the upcoming general election scheduled in December.
