Two killed in N’ganj, Bogura ‘gunfights’

    Sayeed Muhammad: A su-spected robber and an alleged criminal were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ with police in Bagura and Narayanganj respectively.
    In Bogura, suspected criminal Akand, 32, of Manikchawak area, was killed in a reported trade of bullets between his cohorts and police at Matidhali Pollimangal in Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
    On information that a gang of criminals were taking position in the area, a police team raided it around 2 am, said Sanatan Chakrawarty, additional superintendent of Bogura (sadar circle) police.
    Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate with gunfire.
    At one stage, Akand was caught in the line of fire, dying on the spot.
    Meanwhile, a 50-year old suspected robber named Mobarak was killed at Asharier Char in Narayanganj’s Sonargaon upazila early yesterday.
    Being tipped-off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the night coaches, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 4 am, said Sharafat Ullah, officer-in-charge of Sonargaon Police Station.
    The bandits sensing the presence of the lawmen opened fire, prompting the policemen to fire back.
    At one stage, police recovered the bullet-riddled body of Mobarak as the others managed to flee the scene, where a shutter gun and two bullets were recovered later on.
