Reading Shashi Tharoor’s An Era of Empire.His evaluation of British rule appears simplistic, even biased by subjectivity.I am critical,like many, of the cruelties, racism, inequities and pludering of the wealth by the British duting the Company rule and later by the colonial rulers.But I also appreciate the important contributions made during the British Raj for the modernisation of colonial India.No other ruler of India, Hindu or Muslim, come snywhre near the British in this respect.
