Kabir Humayun: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon has urged residents not to be panicked over the recent dengue outbreak.
“Despite an increase in number of people suffering from dengue fever compared to the last two to three years, the situation is not alarming,” Khokon said, reports The Daily Star.
The Mayor said this while inaugurating a two-week long crash programme to eradicate Aedes mosquito larvae to control dengue outbreak in the capital.
The mayor inaugurated the programme at 57 wards around 12pm this noon at the city’s Easkaton Garden.
“Our representatives will go from house to house and destroy Aedes mosquito larvae and clear their breeding grounds,” he said.
Residents will also be made aware of the dangers of Aedes mosquito breeding and its spread, he also said urging the DNCC to start a similar program to eradicate dengue.
“With everyone’s combined efforts, soon we will be able to present a dengue free city to the dwellers,” Khokon said.
The mayor then sprayed fume from a fogger machine at an under-construction Navy information-center building to kick off the programme.
He also distributed leaflets on raising awareness against dengue to shopkeepers and students in the area.
