Arafat Hasan: Detectives are set to submit a charge-sheet accusing six people in the case filed over the death of two college students in a road accident in the capital’s Airport Road which had triggered nationwide protests.
“We have already completed investigation into the case regarding the death of two college students in a road accident following a race by two buses of Jabale-e-Noor on Airport Road in the capital on July 29,” Deputy Commissioner of DB (north) Moshiur Rahman told BSS yesterday.
“The charge-sheet in the case will be submitted against six persons – two drivers, two helpers and two owners – of the two buses before the court on Monday,” he said. Owners of the buses will be included in the charge-sheet as they did not properly scrutinize the bus drivers’ driving licenses during their appointments, he added.
“Of the six persons, two drivers, one helper and one owner are now in jails while two others one owner and one helper are on the run,” he said, adding that frantic efforts are on to capture them.
The charge-sheet will be submitted under sections 304, 279 and 34 of the Penal Code, the DB official said. Section 304 refers to life term imprisonment while section 279 for reckless driving and section 34 for common intention, he informed.
On July 29, two students of Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College – Abdul Karim alias Rajib Uddin,18, a student of class-XII, and Dia Khanam Mim,17, an 11th grader – were run over during a mad race between two buses of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan on Dhaka’s Airport Road.
Agitated people torched the two buses and triggered a widespread protest by the students demanding justice for their fellows and road safety. Dia’s father Jahangir Hossain Fakir had filed a case with Cantonment Police Station to that end.
