Sayeed Muhammad: The Awami League-led alliance will hold rallies in eight divisional cities in this month as part of mass contact ahead of the next general election and to resist the ‘conspiracies to foil’ the election.
The decision was taken yesterday at a meeting of the alliance at Dhanmandi office of the Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, reports UNB.
Emerging from the meeting, secretary general of the Bangladesh Jatiya Party Sheikh Shahidul said the meeting took resolution to remain united to resist the conspiracies to foil the next general polls.
‘BNP and newly formed political combine Juktafront are hatching conspiracies to foil the election, as they think they will be benefited if the extra constitutional force came in power,’ Shahidul said.
‘We shall hold the divisional rallies protesting the conspiracies to foil the election,’ the Jatiya Party leader added.
Workers Party of Bangladesh politburo member Quamrul Ahsan said some leaders of the alliance partners were opined resolving the seat sharing issue as the national election is scheduled for December.
In reply to the call, Mohammad Nasim, the presidium member of Awami League and also spokesman of the alliance, told them that the issue would be addressed in proper time before taking part in the election jointly.
Chaired by Sheikh Shahidul Islam, the meeting was attended, among others, by Awami League organising secretaries Ahmad Hossain and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction general secretary Shirin Akhter and Bangladesh Jatiya Samjtantrik Dal General Secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan.
