Sayeed Muhammad: At least six people have been killed and 24 injured in separate road accidents in Brahmanbaria, Faridpur and Mymensingh yesterday, reports The Daily Star.
In Brahmanbaria, a bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Sarail upazila killing three people, including a child, and injuring 20. Two of the deceased are were identified as Rubina Noor, 55, and her daughter Samira Noor, 28, with the child remaining d unidentified until not be known till filing of this report at 4:00pm.
The accident occurred when a Sylhet-bound Ena Paribahan bus from Dhaka turned turtle after the driver of the bus lost control over its steering, Md Hossain Sarkar, officer in-charge (OC) of Sarail Bishwaroad Highway Police Station.
The bus fell into a ditch on the right side of the highway in Boishamura area, he added.
In Faridpur, a college student named Monira Akter, 18, was killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Barishal Highway in Moshaujan Bus stand area under Nagarkanda upazila in Faridpur today.
Hailing from Krishnapur village under Dangi union of the same upazila, she was a 12th grader in Monohorpur MA Sukur Women College.
Police said the accident took place when a bus of Sheba Green Line paribahan ran over Monira. After the accident, local people blocked the highway for an hour.
In Mymensingh, at least two persons including a child were killed and four others injured in a road accident at Rupchandrapur area on Mymensingh’s Phulpur road in Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh today.
The victims are Abid Hossain, 5, and Azizur Rahman, 22, hailing from Haluaghat upazila of Mymensingh.
The accident took place when a Mymensingh-bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw from Haluaghat collided head on with a truck in the area, killing the child on the spot around 12:15pm, said Mahbubul Haque, officer-in-charge of Tarakanda Police Station.
The injured persons were rushed to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where Azizur died
