The quota reformists are being targeted and becoming of victims of torture. They are also being apprehended from wherever they are found. Even the female students are not spared.
Why the arrestees are denied bail? This is not right at all. This makes it abundantly clear that the rule of law is found wanting in the country. This would not happen if there were any rule of law in the country.
A few days ago, the Prime Minister said that none of the quota reform activists was arrested. Only those who vandalized the residence of Dhaka University Vice Chancellor were apprehended. Then a question naturally arises here if the arrestees were all involved with the vandalism.
The arrestees will not be released from jail, no matter how the movement intensifies. The speech of the PM is not logical at all. Those who are not guilty should be released from jail sooner than later.
The students called off their movement upon assurance from the PM. The PM should have clearly mentioned as to how much the quota system would be reformed.
The students should submit a memorandum to the PM and seek her appointment. They should also demand release of the arrestees and the government might comply with their demands. The situation will worsen further if the government resorts to dilly-dallying in releasing the students.
