News Age: The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday announced a 31-member preliminary squad for the forthcoming Asia Cup, scheduled in UAE in September, retaining all-rounder Sakib al Hasan and left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam in the squad.
Sakib was undecided about playing in the competition from September 15 to 28 as he required a surgery on his injured finger.
Nazmul needed 25 stitches after he injured his bowling hand during a recent Twenty20 game against West Indies.
All-rounder Fazle Mahmud, left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam and right-arm seamer Syed Khaled Ahmed were included in the national team camp for the first time after they displayed some excellent performances in the ongoing Bangladesh A team’s series in Ireland.
The preliminary camp will begin on August 27 at the Sher-e Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Bangladesh have been drawn in Group B in the six-nation Asia Cup along with Sri Lanka and Afghanistan and they will face Sri Lanka in their opening match of the tournament on September 15 in Dubai.
The Tigers will take on Afghanistan on September 20 in their second and final group match in Abu Dhabi.
Top two teams in each group will qualify for the super four round of the tournament.
