Cyber Unit to be strengthened: IGP

    Kabir Humayun: The Cyber Unit of the police headquarters will be strengthened for patrolling cyber-crimes, including the spread of rumours through social media, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary.
    The police chief came up with the remarks yesterday while briefing reporters at the police headquarters on the security measures taken for the Mourning Day to be observed on August 15 and ahead of Eid-ul-Azha to be celebrated on August 22, reports UNB.
    The unit will be strengthened in coordination with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Special Branch (SB) and Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), he said.
    Moreover, he informed that district police have been directed to form cyber unit in each district.
    The IGP mentioned that online news portals which spread rumours during the student protests have been identified and a total of 21 cases filed in this connection.
    ‘No one will be spared,’ warned the IGP.
