Jabal-e-Noor to pay Tk 5 lakh each to families of Mim, Rajib

    BSS: Owner of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan will pay Taka five lakh each to the families of Rajib Uddin Rajib and Dia Khanam Mim, who were crushed to death by his bus in the capital on July 29, as per a direction of the High Court (HC).
    Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) informed the court about this
    through a report submitted yesterday.
    “BRTA said the transport company will pay Taka five lakh each to the
    families as compensation. They had pleaded for time in this regard, but the
    court scrapped their plea. The court also set October 7 to hold hearing on a
    report of BRTA on the criteria of getting driving license and its steps to
    ensure safety of the people on roads,” Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, who
    filed and moved the writ, told newsmen.
    The High Court on July 31 ordered owner of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan to pay
    Taka five lakh each to the families of the deceased.
    A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md
    Khairul Alam passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed
    in this regard.
    The court also had ordered the bus owner to pay for all treatment costs of
    the people injured in that incident.
    The court also formed committee headed by the chief of Accident Research
    Institute of Bangladesh University of Technology and Engineering (BUET) to
    assess responsibility behind the accident and asked it to submit report
    within two months.
    Two students Shaheed Ramiz Uddin Cantonment College were killed and 10
    others were injured as a speedy bus of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan hit them as
    they were waiting beside road to catch transport after college.
